Barbara Rohde: Barbara’s art career began with a bachelor’s degree in art education from Buffalo State University. She taught art in Rochester NY, then moved to Michigan where she learned printmaking at Michigan State University and explored watercolor with Lynn Souliere in Stratford, Ontario. She developed her painting style through workshops with Sally Martin Stewart, Helga Flowers and Margaret Mead Turnbull. In 2005 she moved to North Carolina where she took classes with Karlyn Holman, Jeanne Carbonetti and Lori Skoumal Reeves. Barb currently lives in Durham, North Carolina with her husband Dave and Rumpleteaser, her cat. She continues to grow as an artist, painting and studying with acclaimed watercolorist, Luna Lee Ray.

Artist’s Statement

I enjoy making colorful watercolor and acrylic paintings that express life experiences and inspire the imagination. I attempt to simplify this incredibly complex world through form, color, texture and relationships. My work varies from realistic renderings to abstract images. My style is greatly influenced by my training in printmaking. My subjects are drawn from life in New York, Michigan and North Carolina.
